Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UPDATE: UOIT’s downtown Oshawa location to reopen Tuesday, September 24

Emergency notification

Update – 4:30 p.m.

The UOIT downtown Oshawa campus location will reopen on Tuesday, September 24 at 6 a.m. and all activities will resume. The water pressure issue has been resolved by the Durham Region Works Department. UOIT staff are now testing the downtown location facilities to ensure the buildings are full operational on Tuesday morning.

Downtown Oshawa campus locations include:

  • Regent Theatre
  • Faculty of Education (11 Simcoe Street North)
  • Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Bordessa Hall (55 Bond Street East)
  • 61 Charles Street
  • 2 Simcoe Street South

Update - 1:30 p.m.

Please be advised the UOIT downtown Oshawa campus location will be closed for the remainder of the day (Monday, September 23, 2013) due to water pressure issue.

We fully expect classes will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24. A further update will be posted at 5 p.m.

Update - noon

Due to a water pressure issue in east Oshawa, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology has closed all of its buildings at the downtown Oshawa location. Under public health regulations we are not allowed to operate buildings without functioning public washrooms.

This closure includes:

  • Regent Theatre
  • Faculty of Education (11 Simcoe Street North)
  • Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Bordessa Hall (55 Bond Street East)
  • 61 Charles Street
  • 2 Simcoe Street South

It is understood that all buildings in the downtown Oshawa area are impacted by the problem.

The Region of Durham’s Works Department is working on the situation. There is no current timeline on when repairs will be completed.

All classes are postponed until further notice. We will update you as soon as we have more information. Please refer to the university’s website (uoit.ca) for updates.
