OSHAWA, ONTARIO – To coincide with the official opening of the new UOIT-Baagwating Indigenous Student Centre, a donation to fund student bursaries at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has been made by Enbridge Pipelines Inc.
The $20,000 donation creating the Enbridge Indigenous Student Bursaries will be matched by the university through the UOIT Student Success Fund, resulting in expendable awards valued at $40,000.
“The University of Ontario Institute of Technology gratefully acknowledges the support of Enbridge, which adds an exciting new dimension to the opening of the UOIT-Baagwating Indigenous Student Centre,” said Susan McGovern, UOIT Vice-President, External Relations and Advancement. “The university is deeply committed to the success of all students, and this bursary creates an important new legacy in support of our mission.”
The Enbridge Bursaries include:
- Two to be awarded to an Indigenous student in any year of study in the Energy Systems program.
- Four to be awarded to Indigenous female students in a Business program.
- Two to be awarded to an Indigenous student in any Engineering program.
“Enbridge believes that education is a vital component of our partnership with Aboriginal communities,” said Matthew Jackson, Senior Advisor, Aboriginal Affairs, Enbridge Pipelines Inc. “It’s our hope that these bursaries will help enable Aboriginal students along our pipeline right-of-way to achieve educational success.”
