National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
November 28, 2014
In 1991, December 6 was declared by Canada’s Parliament as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The declaration came two years after the murder of 14 women at L’École Polytechnique in Montreal, Quebec. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that horrific event.
The tragedy of December 6, 1989 has become the basis of recognizing and supporting action against widespread violence committed against women in our society.
With December 6 falling on a Saturday, this year’s remembrance at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology will be held on Friday, December 5 in the ACE Atrium. The ceremony is arranged by UOIT’s Women in Engineering student group, with support from the UOIT Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
