Ridgeback hockey stars become university’s first Universiade medal winners
Three players reach the podium representing Canada on the world stage

Three University of Ontario Institute of Technology students went halfway around the world for an athletic experience of a lifetime.
Ridgebacks hockey players Kassidy Nauboris, Jack Patterson and Alex Yuill had the honour of suiting up for Canada at the FISU (International University Sports Federation) Winter Universiade from March 2 to 12 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Nauboris helped Canada capture a silver medal in women’s hockey, while Patterson and Yuill won bronze for Canada in men’s hockey.
By reaching the podium, the three Ridgebacks became the university’s first-ever student-athletes to win medals at Summer or Winter Universiade.

Inaugurated in 1959, Universiade is a biennial international multi-sport competition for full-time athletes in post-secondary institutions.
