Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Don’t miss Ontario Tech’s Virtual Open House Saturday, May 23

Digital tours a great learning experience for future students and their families

Ontario Tech University's Virtual Open House takes place Saturday, May 23, starting at 11 a.m.
Ontario Tech University's Virtual Open House takes place Saturday, May 23, starting at 11 a.m.

While physical distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic may require people to stay indoors, Ontario Tech University continues to engage its current and future audiences through technology.

Hundreds of prospective students have said ‘hello’ to Ontario Tech University in recent months, and now it’s time for everyone to get to know the university better.

Looking to give future students and applicants as much access and information as possible, Ontario Tech will stage the latest version of its interactive Virtual Open House (ontariotechu.ca/openhouse) on Saturday, May 23, starting at 11 a.m.

Following the success and stellar reviews of a similar Open House event in March, the university will transform the campus digitally to feature:

  • A fully interactive 360-degree virtual reality (VR)-enabled campus tour video with one of our tour guides (can also be viewed without VR).
  • Live chat with Ontario Tech admissions officers, and awards and financial aid personnel.
  • Live chat with representatives and experts from all Ontario Tech faculties.
  • Sessions with the Campus Library, Office of Student Life and Student Union.
  • Online ‘mock’ lectures that will:
    • Demonstrate the university’s technology-enriched online learning experience.
    • Introduce the online learning management platform for insight on how courses are structured.
    • Discuss how to prepare for first year of studies.
    • Outline general expectations of instructors for students.
  • A live tour of residence.
  • Videos of Ontario Tech lab spaces.
  • Image galleries of campus spaces.
  • Webinars on various campus topics.

When the COVID-19 pandemic called for cancellation of all in-person classes, Ontario Tech paused only for a day while it quickly and seamlessly pivoted all course-work online, enabling students to continue the semester and keep all plans for graduation and beyond in place.

For an innovative university that boasts small-class sizes, access to faculty and staff, and a close campus community, utilizing technology to convey student life and academic opportunity reflects the university’s determined spirit and capacity to adapt to the current situation. The Virtual Open House defines Ontario Tech’s brand: modern, forward-thinking, open to new ideas, and committed to the ethical application of technology.

Join us on Saturday, May 23 at 11 a.m. to learn more about Ontario Tech University and experience our campus like never before.
