Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Durham Regional Science Fair winners capture national awards

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s Faculty of Science, which hosted the Durham Regional Science Fair (DRSF) in April, congratulates its two grand prize winners for capturing national awards at the 56th Canada-Wide Science Fair.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s Faculty of Business and Information Technology (FBIT) immerses Game Development and Entrepreneurship (GDE) students in the game design and development process from day one in their first year. Historic season earns Ridgebacks women’s soccer OUA Team of the Year

To cap off a season that saw the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s Ridgebacks women’s soccer team win the university’s first-ever provincial team sport championship, on May 10 the program was named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Team of the Year.

Ridgebacks women’s soccer coach wins OUA Male Coach of the Year

Peyvand Mossavat, Head Coach of the Ontario champion University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s Ridgebacks women’s soccer team capped an incredible year of success May 10 when he was named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Male Coach of the Year.

First place Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering award winners with their Electric 8x8 Combat Vehicle at the FEAS Capstone Exhibition and Competition.

Innovative engineering projects highlight 2017 Capstone event

In the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), fourth-year students work in teams on a ‘Capstone’ project: an eight-month effort to devise innovative solutions to real-world problems. At the end of second semester, students showcase their research and discoveries at the annual FEAS Capstone Exhibition and Competition.

Life Sciences students shed new light on brain tumours, win research competition

As science continues to unlock new answers on brain tumour treatments, tomorrow’s research leaders hope they can contribute new ideas to the discussion. With that goal in mind, University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Life Sciences students–Mahmud Ali, Melanny Barrios, Shreya Jain, and Tejus Tuppal–entered the Students Advancing Brain Cancer Research (SABCR) Undergraduate Research Competition, held at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Science Rendezvous, the all-day festival that takes science out of the lab and onto the streets, will be held on Saturday, May 13 at the shared campus location of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College.

University makes strong impression on provincial minister during campus tour

The Honourable Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Growth, visited UOIT on March 15 to explore some of the exciting research and development underway at the university and get a glimpse of the role it will play to anchor a research cluster, and innovation and technology park in the eastern Greater Toronto Area.
