Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

As Ontario Tech University approaches the beginning of just its 20th academic year, the impact of the university’s research imprint on knowledge creation and regional economic development continues on a powerful upward trajectory.

Ontario Tech established a strong foundation for impactful research during formative years, along with a track record that included hundreds of industry and community partnerships. In recent years, the university’s research growth has been rapid: in fact, over the three-year period from 2018 to 2021, Ontario Tech’s research income has doubled in size, to more than $23 million annually.

There’s further evidence of Ontario Tech’s impressive research growth this Spring after Canada’s research funding Tri-agencies announced a further $4.3 million in new grants for nearly 30 new multidisciplinary projects being led by the university’s experts (*see project list below). The support for research exploring solutions to pressing societal problems comes from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC),  Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), and the  Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Ontario Tech experts advancing discovery and applications of knowledge

Beyond Ontario Tech’s compelling and distinct array of market-driven undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, the university has emerged as a vital research hub and cluster of expertise anchoring the eastern flank of the Greater Toronto Area. Ontario Tech’s academic roster includes 11 Canada Research Chairs, and its research infrastructure boasts more than 80 specialized labs and super-modern facilities.

Hundreds of top academics from across Canada and around the world call Ontario Tech home, and collectively they make a huge contribution to new knowledge, all while helping drive new regional economic growth and development. These subject matter experts are equally committed to delivering the best teaching and learning to Ontario Tech’s more than 10,000 students and the 25,000-plus alumni now making an impact in the workplace.
