Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Researchers at the Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research at Ontario Tech University are poised to play an enhanced role in uncovering new solutions to ensure that patients in-need and the general public receive the best rehabilitation services. The World Health Organization has named the IDRR at Ontario Tech a founding member of the WHO World Rehabilitation Alliance.

On November 25, the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (MEDJCT) hosted an automotive sector roundtable at Ontario Tech. The robust discussion, held at one of the university’s core research facilities, Ontario Tech’s Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE), featured community partners and local automotive industry champions outlining current challenges and opportunities.

Ontario Tech research supports a green light on electrifying active transportation options

Through funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and Infrastructure Canada, Ontario Tech University researchers are exploring ways to better understand what we know about e-bikes. In a recently published paper in the journal Transport Policy, they say e-bike use has the potential to transform personal transportation towards a mode that is eco-friendly, age-friendly, barrier-free, healthy, and cost-effective.

Ontario Tech University among North American post-secondary leaders for sustainability-focused practices

In the latest rankings report from the Philadelphia-based Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), released in early September, Ontario Tech has not only retained its Gold rating from AASHE’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS), but has also jumped two places over last year on the Top-10 list as a Top-Performing Master's Institution.

Iryna Parkhomchuk’s internship through Mitacs, a Canadian non-profit research organization that helps connect university students with training placements related to industrial and social innovation, brought her to Ontario Tech University. She is one of more than 60 Ukrainian students taking part in the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program across Canada this summer.

Canadian forensic science experts to sharpen the accuracy of determining time since death after discovery of human remains

To develop new scientific approaches that will make time-of-death estimates more accurate in future investigations, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is investing a half-million dollars in a new five-year project being led by the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR; Dr. Shari Forbes), with support from research experts at Ontario Tech University (Dr. Theresa Stotesbury of the Faculty of Science) and Trent University (Dr. Aaron Shafer and Dr. Paul Szpak).

There’s further evidence of Ontario Tech’s impressive research growth this Spring after Canada’s research funding Tri-agencies announced a further $4.3 million in new grants for nearly 30 new multidisciplinary projects being led by the university’s experts.

This year’s event raised $290,000 for students in financial need at Durham College and Ontario Tech University. Funds will also go towards youth programs at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. Thanks to the generosity of participants and supporters, the event has raised over $7.2 million since the Classic first began.
