Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT automotive engineer awarded research funding

Dr. Moustafa El-Gindy, associate professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) is leading a team of researchers in a project valued at $515,770 over two years to develop new protection devices for side crashes involving passenger vehicles and large trucks.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) recently received $278,257 from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help support continued research in the areas of engineering and science.

UOIT researchers awarded more than $1.1 million from NSERC

Fourteen researchers at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) were recently awarded Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grants and Research and Tools and Instruments Grants, which have a combined total of more than $1.1 million over the next five years.

UOIT and Durham College to hold lockdown drill on campus

As part of its commitment to campus safety, Durham College and UOIT will hold an emergency lockdown drill at their joint campus on Wednesday, May 23 at 9:45 a.m. All buildings west of Simcoe Street North and south of Conlin Road will be affected.

The AYJGlobal English for Academic Purposes program

UOIT is pleased to announce that it has established a partnership with the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) training company, AYJGlobal, to provide opportunities for students in Asia to study English in preparation for entrance into undergraduate programs at UOIT. Some of the teachers at the EAP schools will be graduates of UOIT’s Bachelor of Education program.
