Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT features research related to Canada’s seniors

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) highlights National Seniors Day, which celebrates senior citizens for the valuable contributions they have made to Canadian communities, workplaces and society.

UOIT students engage in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup

As part of the 20th-annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, members of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s Blue Team came together on September 27 to clean Oshawa Creek shorelines of potentially harmful litter.

UOIT welcomed Dr. Giesy, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Saskatchewan, as the featured speaker for the 2014 Romanowski Lecture Series.

Leading ecotoxicologist presents 2014 Romanowski Lecture at UOIT

Faculty, staff, students and community members gathered at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) on September 17 to hear one of Canada’s leading ecotoxicologists tell the story of how he discovered a harmful chemical in the environment – and ultimately had it banned from further use.

Grace period for U-Pass stickers extended to September 30

Due to a delay in the receipt of the full shipment of new U-Pass stickers in the Campus ID office, Durham Region Transit has extended the grace period for the renewal of 2014-2015 U-Pass stickers to Tuesday, September 30. Students who have not yet obtained their new U-Pass sticker can continue to show their current, validated campus ID card when boarding a U-Pass bus route.
