National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

In 1991, December 6 was declared by Canada’s Parliament as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The declaration came two years after the murder of 14 women at L’École Polytechnique in Montreal, Quebec. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that horrific event.

The Campus Library’s online public access catalogue will be unavailable starting 11 p.m. on Friday, November 28 through to 2 a.m. on Saturday November 29, due to scheduled Sirsi hardware maintenance.

Secure-and-hold drill scheduled for November 26

A secure-and-hold drill will be held at the joint UOIT/DC campus location in north Oshawa on Wednesday, November 26 at 9:45 a.m. All buildings west of Simcoe Street North and south of Conlin Road will be affected.

UOIT unveils IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) recently celebrated the opening of the IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre, which will provide UOIT Engineering students with a space to work together on academic and community-focused projects.

Return all overdue books: You may not get your marks!

This is a reminder that the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) will not release your fall-term grades if you have any overdue library books or unpaid library fines. All overdue books must be returned or renewed, and all library fines paid by Friday, December 19 or your grades will not be released.

On Tuesday, November 18, Gord Miller, Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO), will visit the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and Durham College (DC) joint campus to deliver a keynote about his newly released annual report, Managing New Challenges (2013/14). His speech will be followed by a Q&A session.

UOIT presents awards for faculty and staff excellence

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) campus community celebrated the outstanding achievements of faculty and staff throughout 2014 in a special ceremony November 4 at the Regent Theatre. The annual Awards of Excellence recognition event honours individual commitment as well as team contribution.

Fourth-year Criminology and Justice student Julia Bakker won the Best Poster Award at the Undergraduate Student Research Showcase for her literature review on drug treatment courts.

Campus Library battery recycling a continued success

More than 18 kilograms (40 pounds) of household batteries were collected in the library’s recycling pilot project over the 2014 summer semester. Due to the success of the program, the Campus Library plans to continue collecting batteries for the coming year.
