Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s ACE appoints new General Manager

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has appointed proven technology-entrepreneur, Don Toporowski, as General Manager of ACE, the university’s $100 million multi-purpose testing and product development facility. Since ACE opened in 2011, researchers and companies from across Canada and around the world have employed the facility’s leading-edge testing chambers, collaborated with ACE’s team of engineering experts and brought new ideas to market.

UOIT announces new graduate programs in Forensic Psychology

The university’s Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) and Office of Graduate Studies have launched a new master’s and doctoral program in Forensic Psychology, effective September 2015. Students in the program will be able to earn a Master of Science (MSc) or PhD.

Writer, reporter and award-winning musician Wab Kinew came to campus to share his leadership experiences with more than 200 students, alumni, staff and community members at the recent 2015 Leadership Summit weekend. The event was hosted by the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) Student Experience Centre (SEC) at the Regent Theatre in Oshawa, Ontario.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is pleased to announce Dr. Robert (Bob) Bailey as its new Associate Provost, effective July 1, 2015. Dr. Bailey comes to UOIT from Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia where he was Provost and Vice-President Academic and Professional Studies.

He’s a member of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) most-recent graduating class, but in the span of just several months, Lorenzo Escobal is making quite a name for himself. The 2014 UOIT Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) alumnus who majored in Marketing is already being recognized for his impressive accomplishments as a young and successful entrepreneur.

Unattended personal belongings in the silent study rooms

To address study space issues in the North Oshawa Library, effective Monday, February 2, unattended personal belongings left in the silent study rooms for an extended period of time may be removed by Library staff.

UOIT helps drive international conference on advanced vehicle technologies

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) commitment to drive ambitious research and innovative science is expanding in an exciting new international direction. UOIT and Tongji University in Shanghai, China have teamed up to co-host the first joint UOIT-Tongji University Conference on Advanced Vehicle Energy Concepts and Structures.

UOIT’s Dr. Christopher Collins helping Canadians better manage data overload

University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) researcher Dr. Christopher Collins believes the rising tide of digital data is an urgent problem and poses a significant economic drain on society. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) agrees, and it has announced new funding ($55,000) for the UOIT Canada Research Chair in Linguistic Information Visualization to explore new ways of managing linguistic data and understanding its importance to Canada.

FIRST LEGO League Ontario East Provincial Championships coming January 17

LEGO robots designed by some of Ontario’s brightest young minds will take over the joint UOIT and Durham College campus Saturday, January 17, as the institutions co-host the annual FIRST LEGO League’s (FLL) Ontario East Provincial Championships. FIRST is an acronym that means For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.

To help University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) students take a break from intense studying in December, the Social Science and Humanities Student Society (SSHSS) co-ordinated a Puppy Play Day. The event, held in collaboration with The Animal Guardian Society (TAGS), allowed students to meet with canine friends and relieve some exam stress.
