This year's event raised an incredible $26,061.76 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Ontario Chapter and the Durham-based, Gala of Hope. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology's (UOIT) Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is proud to announce a new research contract with Volvo Group North America (Volvo 3P). Under the research leadership of Dr. Moustafa El-Gindy, associate professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), Volvo 3P is funding a project involving truck tire performance and road interactions for rigid and soft road surfaces. Volvo will invest $150,000 over three years as it collaborates with Dr. El-Gindy to investigate truck tire parameters that will improve fuel economy, without sacrificing safety and cost.

More than 100 University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) students recently attended the second annual UOIT Accounting Case Competition at the Ajax Convention Centre. The theme of the competition was Breaking Barriers, where students from the Faculty of Business and Information Technology (FBIT), focused upon endeavours that are required for success in a world where geographic, cultural, social and financial barriers often shift and change. Students from the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Science, Health Sciences and Social Science and Humanities also attended the competition.
Energy Minister headlines workshop on Ontario's electricity future

The Honourable Brad Duguid, Ontario Minister of Energy says the province's energy future will remain bright, thanks to the combined effort of universities, colleges, industry, labour and government who are partnering to address Ontario's critical shortage of qualified personnel in the electricity sector. Minister Duguid was the keynote speaker at Ontario's Electricity Future: New Skills for New Jobs, a workshop developed by the Power Engineering Education Consortium (PEEC), whose mission is the development of next steps and solutions.

Veridian CEO donates plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to UOIT

Veridian President and CEO Michael Angemeer handed over today the keys to his modified Toyota Prius - Canada's first plug-in hybrid solar electric vehicle - to Dr. Greg Rohrauer, assistant professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). The vehicle will be used as part of the Automotive Engineering program's participation in AUTO21 - Canada's national automotive research program - and vehicle-to-grid communications testing. Dr. Rohrauer is also the lead for the Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) at UOIT which will host research and development from worldwide automotive companies when it opens later this year.
